We have the finale of a three game set between the Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies in MLB action on Wednesday.

The Cincinnati Reds will be looking to avoid the sweep after losing their 8th game in their first 10 tries thanks to a 6-1 loss to Philly on Tuesday. Jesse Winker went 1 for 3, accounting for the lone Reds RBI in the loss, while Jose Peraza and Scooter Gennett each added a base knock of their own in defeat. Homer Bailey gave up one run on two hits while striking out seven over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Jared Hughes gave up the game-deciding run in the 7th, taking the loss to fall to 0-1 this season. Luis Castillo will start the finale and is 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA and 9 strikeouts this season. This will be Castillo’s first career start against Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Phillies will look to complete the sweep after winning 4 of their last 5 games following their game two victory on Tuesday. Scott Kingery went 1 for 4 with a grand slam, while Odubel Herrera added a pair of doubles and an RBI and J.P. Crawford added an RBI of his own to finish off the scoring for the Phils in the win. Cesar Hernandez and Nick Williams each added a base hit as well to finish off the offense for Philadelphia. Aaron Nola got the win to improve to 1-0 after giving up the one run on three hits while walking three and striking out six over eight innings of work. Nick Pivetta will take to the bump in game three and is 1-0 with a 2.79 ERA and 12 strikeouts this season. This will be Pivetta’s first career start against Cincinnati.

Cincinnati is 4-18 in their last 22 games overall and 1-4 in Castillo’s last 5 starts against the NL East while the under is 8-2-1 in their last 11 games against a team with a losing record. Philadelphia is 6-0 in Pivetta’s last 6 starts and 5-1 in their last 6 home games while the over is 7-4-1 in their last 12 games overall. Cincinnati is 12-5 in the last 17 meetings between these two teams and 17-35 in the last 52 meetings between these two teams in Philadelphia.

I got burned with the Reds on Tuesday, but in my defense it did look like the Reds may pull it off for a second before falling apart late. With that said, I’m not backing the Reds right now, especially against Philadelphia who have been money with Pivetta on the hill dating back to last season. Add in the fact that we are getting a low line, and I think the only choice here is to take the Phillies for the sweep.
