For the Friday game, the Cardinals will be bringing out RHP Luke Weaver. In his 11.1 innings and 1-0 record so far this year, Weaver has a 1.59 ERA with 10 Ks and four BBs.

Heading into this series, Marcell Ozuna led the Cards with 16 hits, four runs, a homer and seven RBI. In the Thursday game, Ozuna ripped a solo homer in the third.

Over on the Reds’ side, they’re going with RHP Tyler Mahle on Friday. In his 10.2 innings and 1-1 record this season, Mahle has put up a 4.22 ERA with nine Ks and three walks.

Tops in offense for the Reds entering this set was Scooter Gennett with 14 hits, two RBI and three runs to his name. On Thursday, Gennett managed a hit and two RBI.

The Cardinals are 20-8 in their last 28 during game two of a series and 5-0 in Weaver’s last five road starts. St. Louis is also 9-2 in Weaver’s last 11 starts and 4-1 in his last five starts with four days’ rest.

Meanwhile, the Reds are 0-4 in their last four during game two of a series and 0-4 in their last four Friday games. The under is 5-0-1 in Mahle’s last six starts overall and 5-0 in his last five starts versus the NL Central.

I haven’t shown a lot of faith in the Cards so far this year, and I’ve been whining about their offense since last season. That said, St. Louis can gain some ground with a good showing in this series and they’ve got a legitimate shot at a win here with Weaver on the mound. I’m going Cardinals.
