MLB comes to Minute Maid Park where the Houston Astros host the Texas Rangers Friday.
The Texas Rangers will be looking to right the ship after dropping four straight following a 7-2 loss versus the LA Angels. Texas starter Matt Moore gave up three runs on seven hits in five frames to fall to 0-2 before Matt Bush and Tony Barnette allowed two runs each.
The Rangers were held to five hits but did walk six times with Ryan Rua clubbing his first long ball of 2018 while Jurickson Profar singled in Drew Robinson.
Left hander Cole Hamels gets Friday’s starting assignment at the AL West rival Astros. Hamels took a 7-4 loss to Toronto last time out with all seven runs plated (five earned) on eight hits in 5.1 frames.
The Houston Astros are off to a quick start in defense of their World Series crown. Houston has suffered back to back defeats for the first time after a 9-8 loss at Minnesota. Houston starter Lance McCullers Jr. was charged with eight runs on seven hits and six BB over 3.2 frames with Brad Peacock serving up a walk off bomb in the 9th.
The Astros did their damage on 13 hits and seven bases on balls with Alex Bregman going 4-6 with a homer and two runs with Evan Gattis going 2-5 with a run and two RBI’s followed by three players wit each driving in a run and scoring.
Gerrit Cole makes his third start of the young season and second versus the Rangers. Cole comes in off of a 1-0 win (ND) versus San Diego where he tossed seven shutout innings and struck out eleven.
Under is 10-1-1 in Texas last 12 road games and Texas are 6-18 in their last 24 overall and Texas are 6-18 in their last 24 games on grass. Houston are 14-4 in their last 18 Friday games and under is 9-3-1 in Houston last 13 Friday games and over is 6-2 in Houston last 8 vs. American League West. Texas are 1-7 in the last 8 meetings.
Cole has allowed a run in his two starts and I’d probably take my chances with him and the Astros bats to get the win here…
