USA TODAY Sports
For Saturday’s game, the Pirates will be bringing out RHP Jameson Taillon. In his 14.1 innings and 2-0 record this year, Taillon has a 1.26 ERA with 16 Ks and two walks.
Pittsburgh’s leading hitter coming into this set was Josh Harrison with 15 hits, 12 runs and five RBI. On Friday, Harrison went 0-for-4 with a strikeout.
Over on the Marlins’ side, they’re going with RHP Trevor Richards on Saturday. In his 8.1 innings and 0-1 record this year, Richards has an 8.64 ERA with seven Ks and four BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Marlins entering this series was Derek Dietrich with 16 hits, six runs and four RBI. In the Friday opener, Dietrich had a solid game with two hits and a run.
The Pirates are 8-17 in their last 25 during game two of a series and 5-0 in Taillon’s last five starts with five days’ rest. Pittsburgh is also 4-0 in Taillon’s last four starts and 5-1 in his last six road starts.
Meanwhile, the over is 7-0 in the Marlins’ last seven Saturday games and Miami is 2-7 in their last nine overall. The Marlins are also 1-5 in their last six home games and 9-4 in the last 13 meetings between these two teams.
Miami is firmly locked in rebuilding mode and not much is expected of them at all this season. As for Pittsburgh, they’ve started things out pretty well and will be looking to continue that run through the weekend in games they have no business losing. That starts here with Taillon on the mound, as the Pirates usually play well behind him. I’m going Pittsburgh for the win here.
