Down at Minute Maid Park on Sunday, the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros will be finishing off their MLB series.
In the Friday opener, the Astros eked out a 3-2 win. On Saturday, we had a 10-inning thriller as the Rangers secured a dramatic 6-5 win, coming back from a 5-0 deficit.

For the Sunday game, the Rangers are rolling with RHP Bartolo Colon in the start. Over his 11.0 innings so far this year, Colon has a 1.64 ERA with 10 Ks and one walk.
Entering the weekend, Elvis Andrus was the top Texas hitter with 17 hits, seven runs, two homers and five RBI. On Saturday, Joey Gallo and Ronald Guzman combined for four hits, two runs, four RBI and two homers.
Over on the Astros’ side, they’re going with RHP Justin Verlander on Sunday. In his 18.2 innings and 2-0 record overall, Verlander has a 1.45 ERA with 23 Ks and four BBs.
Jose Altuve was the leading Astros batter coming into the weekend with 19 hits, eight runs and four RBI. In the Saturday game, Altuve put up one hit with a run. Each of the top five Houston hitters made it around to score once.
The Rangers are 3-13 in their last 16 Sunday games and 0-4 in their last four during game three of a series. Texas is 1-8 in the last nine meetings between these two teams 1-10 in their last 11 games versus a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.
Meanwhile, the Astros are 4-1 in their last five Sunday games and 4-1 in their last five during game three of a series. Houston is also 6-0 in Verlander’s last six home starts and 12-1 in his last 13 starts overall.
The Rangers don’t have a whole lot of things to build on in the young season, but Colon is one of the bright spots so far. Houston is obviously good all the way around, and with Verlander making the start they’ll be in a nice position. I like Houston here, but the under looks pretty good as well due to the thick line.
