The Los Angeles Angels and the Kansas City Royals square off in the finale of their four game four game set from Kauffman Stadium on Sunday.
The Los Angeles Angels will look to complete their second consecutive series sweep and add to their current winning streak which sits at 7 games following a 5-3 victory over the Royals on Saturday. Mike Trout went yard to lead the team with two RBIs, while Luis Valbuena and Justin Upton each added a solo homer and Zack Cozart chipped in an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for the Angels in the win. Albert Pujols added a double and Rene Rivera went 2 for 3 at the dish while Kole Calhoun chipped in a base knock of his own to finish off the offense for the Halos. Garrett Richards got the win after giving up just one run on one hit while walking three and striking out five over five innings of work to improve to 2-0 this season. Keynan Middleton closed out the 9th for his 4th save of the year. Shohei Ohtani will take the mound for the Angels in the finale and is 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA and 18 strikeouts this season. This will be Ohtani’s first career start against Kansas City.

The Kansas City Royals will simply look to play spoiler and salvage a win to avoid the sweep after their 5th straight loss on Saturday. Mike Moustakas hit a solo homer and Drew Butter added an RBI of his own, while Whit Merrifield, Lucas Duda, Jorge Soler and Paulo Orlando each added base hits as KC put up just six hits as a team in the loss. Jakob Junis took his first loss of the year after giving up four runs on seven hits while striking out seven over 4.2 innings of work to drop to 2-1 this season. Eric Skoglund will start the finale and is 0-1 with a 9.64 ERA and 1 strikeout this season. This will be Skoglund’s first career start against the Angels.
Los Angeles is 8-0 in their last 8 road games and 13-3 in their last 16 games overall while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games against the AL Central. Kansas City is 0-5 in Skoglund’s last 5 starts and 0-4 in their last 4 home games while the under is 9-2 in their last 11 games overall. Los Angeles is 4-7 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams.
This might be the easiest pick on Sunday’s slate in my opinion. The Angels are red hot right now, and while I had my doubts about Ohtani coming into the season, the fact is that he’s living up to the hype through his first two starts. Granted, they came against Oakland and the A’s have been far from inspiring this season, but one could argue that the Royals are not even near that level. Skoglund got torched in his first outing and I’m expecting more of the same on all fronts, so to negate some of the heavy juice, I’ll take the Angels on the run line here.
