The Miami Marlins will be looking for a big win after losing 9 of their last 11 games, including a 7-3 loss to Pittsburgh in their series finale on Sunday. Justin Bour led the Fish with a pair of pinch-hit RBIs, while Brian Anderson added an RBI of his own despite going 0 for 4 to round out the scoring for the Marlins in the loss. Cameron Maybin added a double, while J.B. Shuck, Miguel Rojas, Starlin Castro, Derek Dietrich and Tomas Telis each added a base hit as well in the defeat. Jose Arena fell to 0-3, taking the loss after giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out five over five innings of work. The New York Yankees come into this one extremely well rested after being inclement weather postponed the final two games of their series against Detroit. The one game that was played, New York earned an 8-6 victory to get back to .500 at 7-7 this season. In that win, Aaron Hicks hit a pair of home runs, going 2 for 3 with three RBIs, while Brett Gardner went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Aaron Judge, Didi Gregorius and Ronald Torreyes each added a run on the board as well. Miguel Andujar went 2 for 4 with a triple and a double and Gary Sanchez added a double of his own to finish off the offense for the Yanks in the win. Jordan Montgomery got the win after giving up three runs on five hits while striking out four over six innings of work to improve to 1-0 this season. Aroldis Chapman struck out the side in the 9th for his 2nd save of the season. Luis Severino will start the series opener and is 2-1 with a 3.50 ERA and 20 strikeouts this season. This will be Severino’s first career start against Miami.
Miami is 1-5 in their last 6 games overall and 5-16 in their last 21 road games while the over is 14-5 in their last 19 interleague road games. New York is 13-3 in Severino’s last 16 home starts and 6-0 in their last 6 interleague games while the over is 9-1-1 in their last 11 games overall. Miami is 1-4 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in New York.
While the temptation of possibly tripling my money on a single game is intriguing, there’s no way I’m backing the Marlins. The Fish simply aren’t a good baseball team, and have a below average starting rotation, and going against an offense the likes of the one that the Yankees have, won’t fare well, especially since the Yanks know what Smith will be throwing given his time with the team last season. I’m also not laying this kind of juice, so I’ll take the Yankees on the run line to get some value out of the pick.
