The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres meet Monday in MLB action at Petco Park.
The Los Angeles Dodgers could use another win after losing seven of their last 10 games. The Dodgers have allowed 19 runs in their last three games and six or more runs in six of their last 10 games. The Los Angeles Dodgers are just 2-9 this season when allowing at least one run. Offensively, Cody Bellinger leads the Dodgers with 17 hits and four RBI while Chris Taylor and Yasmani Grandal have combined for 28 hits and 13 RBI. Hyun-Jin Ryu gets the ball, and he is 1-0 with a 2.79 ERA and 10 strikeouts this season. Ryu is 4-1 with a 2.57 ERA and 41 strikeouts in his career against the Padres.
USA TODAY Sports
The San Diego Padres look for another victory after winning five of their last seven games. The Padres have scored 20 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in six of their last seven games. The San Diego Padres have won six of their last seven games when scoring more than one run. Jose Pirela leads the Padres with 24 hits and 10 RBI while Freddy Galvis and Eric Hosmer have combined for 35 hits and 10 RBI. Luis Perdomo was expected to take the hill in this game, but he will face a five-game suspension, obviously making him unavailable. No replacement has been named at this time.
The Dodgers are 2-6 in their last 8 vs. National League West, 0-4 in Ryus last 4 road starts and 1-6 in Ryus last 7 starts. The Padres are 5-2 in their last 7 vs. National League West, 2-5 in their last 7 during game 1 of a series and 3-8 in their last 11 Monday games. The Dodgers are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings in San Diego, 57-27 in the last 84 meetings and 4-1 in Ryus last 5 starts vs. Padres.
The San Diego Padres looked impressive in their series against the Giants, and you have to wonder if that will carry over against another division squad. And while the Dodgers aren't playing well, they are throwing out a pitcher in Ryu who has allowed just three runs in 9.2 innings and has been tough to hit. In 35 at bats against current Padres hitters, Ryu is allowing just a .200 batting average with nine strikeouts. Small samaple size, of course, but it certainly beats whatever the Padres are going to do with Perdomo's replacement. Give me the Dodgers.
