For Wednesday’s matchup, the Sox will be rolling out RHP Rick Porcello. In his 3-0 record and 19.2 innings this year, Porcello has a 1.83 ERA with 17 Ks and one walk.
Entering this set, the Red Sox’ top hitter was Mookie Betts, with 18 hits, two homers, 10 RBI and 16 runs to his name. On Tuesday, Betts ripped three solo homers and walked twice.
Over on the Angels’ side, they’re going with LHP Tyler Skaggs on Wednesday. In his 16.0 innings and 2-0 mark this season, Skaggs has a 1.69 ERA with 17 Ks and six BBs.
Heading up the Angels’ offensive attack entering this series was Andrelton Simmons, who had 21 hits, 13 runs and eight RBI. In the Tuesday game, Simmons was 0-for-1 with a pair of walks.
The Red Sox are 9-2 in the last 11 Wednesday games and 4-1 in their last five in game two of a series. Boston is also 5-0 in Porcello’s last five road starts and 6-1 in his last seven starts.
Meanwhile, the Angels are 20-7 in their last 27 during game two of a series and 5-0 in Skaggs’ last five starts. LA is also 4-1 in Skaggs’ last five home starts and 1-4 in his last five starts with seven or more days’ rest.
Porcello has started out the season quite well, and he’s gotten some good support from the offense over his last couple of games. As for Skaggs, he’s been sterling as well, with just three earned in three starts. This should be a pretty awesome matchup, so it’s probably best to just sit back and enjoy the game. That said, I’m leaning slightly toward the Sox here, as they’ve looked very strong coming out of the gate.
