We have interleague action on Sunday’s MLB schedule as the San Francisco Giants take on the Los Angeles Angels to close out their three game set.

The San Francisco Giants will look to win the set and find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last five games, including a 4-3 loss in game two on Saturday. Brandon Belt led the Giants, going 1 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs, while Pablo Sandoval added a double and an RBI as well to round out the scoring for the Giants in the loss. Evan Longoria went 2 for 4 at the dish, while Gregor Blanco, Mac Williamson and Nick Hundley each contributed base hits of their own in the losing effort. Derek Holland took the loss, falling to 0-3 this season after giving up all four runs on five hits while striking out six over six innings of work. Johnny Cueto will start the finale and is 1-0 with a 0.45 ERA and 16 strikeouts this season. In his career, Cueto is 1-0 with a 1.20 ERA and 13 strikeouts against the Angels.

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Angels will look to build some steam after snapping a four game losing streak with their game two win on Saturday. All of the Angels’ damage on the scoreboard was done with the long ball, as Albert Pujols hit a two run home run, while Mike Trout went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and a solo home run and Jefry Marte belted out a solo shot of his own to open the scoring for the Halos. Andrelton Simmons also contributed a double as all six of Los Angeles’ base hits went for extra bases in the victory. Garrett Richards got the win, improving to 3-0 after giving up just two runs on five hits while striking out 11 en route to the win. Keynan Middleton struck out three over 1.1 innings of relief for his 5th save of the year. Jaime Barria will start game three and is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA and 3 strikeouts this season. This will be Barria’s first career start against San Francisco.

San Francisco is 5-1 in Cueto’s last 6 starts and 2-5 in their last 7 games overall while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a right-handed starter. Los Angeles is 1-4 in their last 5 games overall and 5-2 in their last 7 interleague games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 home games. San Francisco is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.

We just missed out on cashing in on the Giants as big underdogs for a 2nd day in a row, but not by much. The Giants continue to hang around in games that no one really gives them a chance inand I’m sure their record would be much better if it weren’t for some spotty pitching. Cueto is the farthest thing from spotty however, as the Giants have won five of his last six starts and deserves a much better record, giving up only one run in 20 innings this season. A stretch like that can’t last forever, but Barria is still a relative unknown and I expect San Francisco to get Cueto some run support, so I’ll take San Francisco to steal the finale on Sunday behind a gem from Cueto.
