Up at Guaranteed Rate Field on Wednesday, the Seattle Mariners and the Chicago White Sox will be picking up their MLB series once again.

In the Monday opener, the Sox secured a 10-4 win. On Tuesday, Seattle struck back with a tight 1-0 victory. There were just five hits for each team in that one.

Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

For the Wednesday game, the Mariners will be bringing out RHP Felix Hernandez for the start. In his 26.2 innings and 2-2 record so far this year, Hernandez has a 5.06 ERA with 20 Ks and 10 BBs.

Coming out of the opener, Jean Segura was the Mariners’ top hitter with 27 hits, 15 runs and 14 RBI. On Tuesday, Kyle Seager was the only Seattle player to get multiple hits (2-for-4 with a run).

Over on the Sox’ side, they’re going with James Shields on Wednesday. So far this year in 23.1 innings and a 1-2 mark, Shields has a 6.17 ERA with 11 Ks and 13 walks.

Leading the White Sox in hitting entering Tuesday’s action was Jose Abreu with 24 hits, 12 runs, six homers and 12 RBI. In the Tuesday game, Abreu came up empty 0-for-4.

The Mariners are 2-8 in their last 10 during game three of a series and 1-4 in their last five Wednesday games. Seattle is also 6-1 in Hernandez’s last seven road starts and 7-3 in his last 10 starts.

Meanwhile, the Sox are 6-17 in their last 23 Wednesday games and 4-0 in Shields’ last four starts with four days’ rest. Chicago is also 2-6 in Shields’ last eight starts in game three of a series and 2-7 in his last nine versus the AL West.

Hernandez had a rough start early in the year but since has calmed down with four earned across 11.2 innings in his last two starts. Shields does have a couple of good starts under his belt but got lit up by the Astros his last time up. All things considered I have to lean toward Hernandez and a Mariners victory here.
