The Seattle Mariners and the Cleveland Indians meet in game two of their four game weekend set from Progressive Field in MLB action on Friday.
The Seattle Mariners will look to keep their momentum going after winning three straight, including a 5-4 victory to open their series against the Tribe on Thursday. Dee Gordon, Jean Segura, Robinson Cano, Kyle Seager and Mike Zunino each had an RBI in the win, with Gordon putting up a triple, while Segura, Cano and Seager each added a double. Nelson Cruz added a two-bagger of his own, while Ryon Healy contributed a base knock as well in the victory. James Paxton gave up a pair of runs on five hits while striking out 10 over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Dan Altavilla got his first blown save of the year but ended up with the win to improve to 2-2 this season while Edwin Diaz struck out a pair for his 11th save of the season. Erasmo Ramirez will start game one and is 0-1 with a 9.64 ERA and 1 strikeout this season. In his career, Ramirez is 1-2 with a 3.51 ERA and 29 strikeouts against Cleveland.

The Cleveland Indians will look to bounce back after dropping the opener, alternating wins and losses in each of their last four games. Yonder Alonso led the Tribe with two RBIs, going 2 for 4 with a home run, while Jason Kipnis went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Edwin Encarnacion added an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for Cleveland in the loss. Yan Gomes added a double while Michael Brantley chipped in a base hit as well in the losing effort for the Indians. Mike Clevinger gave up four runs on eight hits while striking out five over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Nick Goody ended up with the loss, falling to 0-1 this season. Corey Kluber will start game one and is 3-1 with a 1.96 ERA and 37 strikeouts this season. In his career, Kluber is 3-2 with a 1.66 ERA and 43 strikeouts against Seattle.
Seattle is 3-13 in Ramirez’s last 16 starts against a team with a winning record and 6-2 in their last 8 road games while the over is 11-4 in their last 15 games against a right-handed starter. Cleveland is 28-12 in their last 40 games against the AL West and 39-15 in Kluber’s last 54 starts while the under is 7-1-1 in Kluber’s last 9 home starts. The under is 11-5-1 in the last 17 meetings between these two teams.
Seattle has been very good in the early going this season, the problem is that Ramirez was not good in his season debut. Kluber has been the normal Kluber we’ve become accustomed to seeing over the years, and Cleveland just wins with the guy on the bump. I’ve been burned on the run line this season, but the pitching matchup is enough to tip the scales to Cleveland by a couple here.
