We have some NL East division action on Saturday as the Arizona Diamondbacks take on the Washington Nationals in game two of a three game set in MLB action.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to keep their momentum going with wins in five of their last six games, including a 5-4 victory in the series opener on Friday. A.J. Pollock and Daniel Descalso each had two RBIs, with Pollock going 3 for 4 with a triple and a home run, while Descalso added a double. Nick Ahmed added an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for the D-Backs in the win, while Paul Goldschmidt also added a base hit as well. Zack Godley got the win after giving up all four runs on ten his while walking three and striking out four over five innings of work. Brad Boxberger notched his 7th save of the season. Patrick Corbin will start game two and is 4-0 with a 1.89 ERA and 48 strikeouts this season. In his career, Corbin is 1-1 with a 5.31 ERA and 21 strikeouts against Washington.

The Washington Nationals could use a win after losing 7 of their last 9 games, including the series opener on Friday. Howie Kendrick went 3 for 5 with a home run, a double and two RBIs, while Matt Wieters and Wilmer Difo each contributed RBIs as well in the loss. Trea Turner and Matt Adams each had two hits, while Ryan Zimmerman, Andrew Stevenson and starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg each contributed base hits as well in the defeat. Speaking of Strasburg, he took the loss, falling to 2-2 this season after giving up all five runs on six hits while striking out seven over 6.1 innings of work. Jeremy Hellickson will start game two and is 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA and 8 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hellickson is 0-3 with a 5.32 ERA and 17 strikeouts against Arizona.
Arizona is 5-1 in Corbin’s last 6 starts and 9-3 in their last 12 games against the NL East while the over is 23-4-1 in Corbin’s last 28 road starts against a team with a losing record. Washington is 2-7 in their last 9 games overall and 1-5 in their last 6 games against the NL West while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 home games. Arizona is 12-27 in the last 39 meetings between these two teams.
Washington is in dire need of a win here, the problem is that Hellickson isn’t much more than an average pitcher, and he’s had zero luck in his career against the D-Backs. Arizona is starting to roll again, and has their most successful pitcher on the mound so far this season in Corbin. The fact is that Corbin has been flat out rolling to start the year, and a low line like this is a gift, even on the road, so I’ll lay the juice with Arizona here.
