For Sunday’s game, the Reds will be going with RHP Tyler Mahle. In his 27.0 innings and 1-3 mark this season, Mahle has a 5.00 ERA with 31 Ks and nine BBs.
Entering the weekend, the Reds’ top hitter was Scooter Gennett with 31 hits, 10 runs and 14 RBI. On Saturday, Gennett put up one hit in four at-bats.
Over on the Twins’ side, they’re rolling out Jose Berrios in the start. Over his 31.2 innings and 2-2 mark this season, Berrios has a 2.84 ERA with 36 Ks and three walks.
Leading the way for the Twins in hitting entering this weekend was Brian Dozier with 25 hits, 16 runs and 10 RBI. In the Saturday game, Dozier went 0-for-4.
The Reds are 26-56 in their last 82 Sunday games and 7-19 in their last 26 during game three of a series. Cincinnati is also 1-4 in Mahle’s last five road starts and 0-4 in his last four starts versus a team with a losing record.
Meanwhile, the Twins are 4-1 in their last five Sunday games and 5-0 in Berrios’ last five Sunday starts. Minnesota is also 10-1 in Berrios’ last 11 home starts and 4-1 in his last five starts with four days’ rest.
This year, Mahle has had a couple of good starts and a couple not-so-good starts, but he did put up a quality outing in his last appearance. As for Berrios, he had a nice run going but then imploded with five earned in 4.0 innings against the Yankees. I think Berrios can bounce back and pitch well here, so I’m going Minnesota.
