The Philadelphia Phillies visit the Miami Marlins in a National League East MLB tilt on Monday.
The Atlanta Braves were dominant at the plate and on the mound in a 10-1 rout at Philadelphia on Sunday. Philadelphia starter Vince Velasquez absorbed the loss with six runs given up on seven hits over four frames before Jake Thompson allowed three runs over 3.2 innings.

The Phillies were limited to five hits and five free passes with Makel Franco driving in Aaron Altherr who had three hits. Philadelphia sends Jake Arrieta to the mound to oppose the Marlins for the second time in 2018. Arrieta defeated Arizona 5-3 last time out with three runs allowed (one earned) on four hits and two BB in seven frames.
The Miami Marlins haven’t had a whole lot to cheer about in the early stages of the 2018 season but the team will try to build on Sunday’s 3-0 victory versus visiting Colorado. Miami starter Caleb Smith improved to 1-3 with a two hit shutout over seven frames where he struck out nine.
The Marlins managed five hits and three bases on balls with Miguel Rojas slamming his 4th long ball. Miami saw Starlin Castro and Lewis Brinson drive in runs with Brian Anderson and Bryan Holaday scoring.
The Marlins give Monday’s starting assignment to Dan Straily who began the season on the DL. Straily made 33 starts a year ago and went 10-9 with a 4.26 ERA with 31 long balls served up.
Philadelphia are 13-5 in their last 18 overall and are 33-69 in their last 102 road games and are 16-33 in their last 49 Monday games. Miami are 2-8 in their last 10 home games and are 19-40 in their last 59 overall and are 19-40 in their last 59 games on grass.
