Tampa Bay starter Jake Faria picked up the win with three hits and six strikeouts over eight scoreless frames. Chaz Roe loaded the bases in the 9th and allowed both runs to make things interesting.

The Rays were held to four hits and a pair of BB with CJ Cron clubbed a two run homer that scored Denard Span in the 9th with Brad Miller following with a solo bomb. Right hander Chris Archer makes his 7th start of 2018 against the Tigers on Tuesday. Archer comes off a 9-5 win at Baltimore with four runs allowed on eleven hits over 5.1 innings.
The Detroit Tigers late rally fell short in a series opening 3-2 loss to visiting Tampa Bay. Detroit starter Jordan Zimmermann tossed seven shutout frames before Shane Greene allowed all three runs on a pair of long balls in 1/3 of an inning.
The Tigers managed five hits and two free passes with Victor Martinez driving in both runs in the bottom of the 9th with JaCoby Jones and Jeimer Candelario scoring.
