The Oakland A’s and the Seattle Mariners duke it out in an AL West division showdown, kicking off game one of their three game set from Safeco Field in MLB action on Tuesday.

The Oakland A’s will be looking for some consistency after splitting their last six games, including dropping back-to-back outings to close out their series with the Astros following an 8-4 defeat in the series finale on Sunday. Jonathan Lucroy led the A’s with two RBIs, going 3 for 4 with a double. Chad Pinder hit a solo shot going 2 for 4 in addition to a double, while Jed Lowrie added an RBI of his own to finish off the scoring for Oakland in the loss. Marcus Semien and Stephen Piscotty each added a double, while Matt Joyce contributed a base knock as well to cap off the offense for the A’s in defeat. Trevor Cahill took the loss, falling to 1-1 this season after giving up four runs, three earned, on four hits while striking out five over six innings of work. Andrew Triggs will start game one and is 2-0 with a 4.70 ERA and 23 strikeouts this season. In his career, Triggs is 0-1 with a 7.13 ERA and 14 strikeouts against Seattle.

Seattle Mariners vs. Oakland Athletics - 5/1/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Jennifer Buchanan-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Mariners will look to stay hot after winning five of their last six games, including a 10-4 beatdown of the Indians in their series finale on Sunday to give the M’s the victory in the set. Ryon Healy went 3 for 4 with a pair of homers and a double along with four RBIs, while Robinson Cano also went yard with two RBIs and a double as well. Dee Gordon went 4 for 5 and Mitch Haniger went 3 for 5 with a solo homer and a triple as Haniger, Gordon, Jean Segura and Ben Games rounded out the scoring with an RBI each. Marco Gonzales got the win to improve to 3-2 this season after giving up two runs on six hits while striking out four over six innings of work. Felix Hernandez will start the series opener and is 3-2 with a 4.96 ERA and 26 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hernandez is 25-10 with a 2.61 ERA and 295 strikeouts against Oakland.

Oakland is 4-1 in Triggs’ last 5 starts and 9-4 in their last 13 games overall while the over is 5-1 in Triggs’ last 6 road starts. Seattle is 8-3 in Hernandez’s lat 11 starts and 5-1 in their last 6 games overall while the over is 4-1 I their last 5 division matchups. Seattle is 31-12 in Hernandez’s last 43 starts against Oakland.

Hernandez’s ERA is swollen but that’s only because he got rocked on opening day and that was also on the road. King Felix has a 1.54 ERA at home and has pretty much owned the A’s over his career. Triggs is a solid arm for Oakland, but I think this is simply a case of catching a team in the wrong place at the wrong time, as the M’s are heating up and King Felix is shutdown at home, so I’ll take the low line and Seattle here.
