The Kansas City Royals and the Boston Red Sox duke it out in the rubber match of their three game set from Fenway Park on Wednesday afternoon.

The Kansas City Royals will look to keep the momentum going after winning three of their last four games, including a 7-6 win in 13 innings on Tuesday to even the set up with the Red Sox at one win apiece. Jorge Soler led the Royals with three RBIs, going 2 for 6 with a home run and a double, while Jon Jay went 4 for 5 with an RBI and Alex Gordon added a solo homer. Alcides Escobar added a sac fly RBI to round out the scoring for KC, while Lucas Duda and Salvador Perez each went 2 for 5. Drew Butter added a double, while Ryan Goins and Whit Merrifield added base knocks of their own to cap off the offense for KC in the win. Jakob Junis gave up two runs on seven hits, striking out five over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Kelvin Herrera blew hits first save of the year, but got the win while Brian Flynn successfully picked up his first save of the season. Danny Duffy will start the finale and is 0-3 with a 5.40 ERA and 28 strikeouts this season. In his career, Duffy is 0-4 with a 6.75 ERA ad 16 strikeouts against Boston.

The Boston Red Sox will look to bounce back and win the series after dropping game two on Tuesday. Jackie Bradley Jr. led the Red Sox with two RBIs, while Mitch Moreland and Eduardo Nunez each hit solo homers and Christian Vazquez added an RBI of his own in the losing effort for the Red Sox. Andrew Benintendi went 3 for 6 with a double while Rafael Devers added a pair of doubles of his own. J.D. Martinez chipped in a base hit as well to finish off the offense for the Red Sox in the losing effort. Chris Sale went seven innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on five hits while striking out six, not factoring in the decision. Craig Kimberly received his first blown save of the year while Brian Johnson took the loss, falling to 1-1 this year. Drew Pomeranz will start game three and is 0-1 with a 7.27 ERA and 11 strikeouts this season. In his career, Pomeranz is 0-0 with a 1.98 ERA and 10 strikeouts against Kansas City.

Kansas City is 0-7 in Duffy’s last 7 starts and 2-7 in their last 9 road games while the over is 4-0-1 in their last 5 games against the AL East. Boston is 15-6 in Pomeranz’s last 21 starts and 10-3 in their last 13 home games while the over is 3-1-2 in their last 6 games against the AL Central. Kansas City is 1-5 in Duffy’s last 6 starts against Boston and 0-4 in his last 4 road starts against Boston.

Kansas City showed some signs of life in game two, however the Royals have had zero success with Duffy on the mound, including in the past against Boston. Pomeranz has looked shaky so far this season, but the Royals have only won back-to-back games once this season, and I think that continues as Boston wins this one easily.
