Coming up from SunTrust Park on Friday, the San Francisco Giants will be taking on the Atlanta Braves in series-opening MLB action.
The Giants just finished up against the Padres. San Fran lost on Tuesday 3-2 but won the other two games to take the series.

For the Friday game, the Giants will be going with RHP Chris Stratton. In his 32.1 innings and 2-2 record this year, Stratton has a 3.90 ERA with 27 Ks and 14 walks.
San Francisco’s leading hitter this year is Brandon Belt, with 28 hits, 15 runs, six homers and 15 RBI. Second are Evan Longoria and Buster Posey, with 26 hits apiece and 27 RBI between them.
Over on the Braves’ side, they just completed a set versus the Mets. After winning 3-2 and 7-0 in the first two games, on Thursday Atlanta kept it going with an 11-0 blowout victory.
The Braves are rolling with RHP Mike Foltynewicz on Friday. In his 32.0 innings and 2-1 record this year, Foltynewicz has a 2.53 ERA with 39 Ks and 15 BBs.
Coming into the Thursday game, the Braves’ top hitters were Nick Markakis and Freddie Freeman, each with 37 hits. On Thursday, Markakis had a big day with three hits, three runs and three RBI with a homer.
The Giants are 4-0 in their last four during game one of a series and 4-1 in their last five Friday games. San Francisco is also 23-47 in their last 70 road games and 4-1 in Stratton’s last five starts.
Meanwhile, the Braves are 1-5 in Foltynewicz’s last six home starts and 2-11 in his last 13 starts. Atlanta is also 0-4 in Foltynewicz’s last four Friday starts and 0-6 in his last six starts with five days’ rest.
After a run of good starts, Stratton faltered versus the Dodgers with six earned on six hits in 1.1 innings. Foltynewicz, meanwhile, has been solid in every start this year, not giving up more than two earned in any. If Stratton can bounce back this should be a pretty good pitching matchup but regardless I’m sticking with Foltynewicz and the Braves here, provided the offense gives a little support.
