The Minnesota Twins and the Chicago White Sox duke it out in game two of their four game AL Central set in MLB action from Guaranteed Rate Field on Friday night.
The Minnesota Twins are in dire need of a win after losing 12 of their last 14 games, including a 6-5 loss in the series opener on Thursday. Logan Morrison led the way, going 3 for 4 with a homer, a double and two RBIs. Eddie Rosario added a double and an RBI while Jason Castro added an RBI of his own in the losing effort. Gregorio Petit went 2 for 4 and Joe Mauer added a base knock of his own to round out the offense for the Twins in the loss. Jake Odorizzi gave up five runs, three earned, on six hits while striking out eight over 5.1 innings of work. Addison Reed gave up the walk-off RBI, taking the loss to fall to 0-2 this season. Jose Berrios will start game two and is 2-3 with a 3.63 ERA and 36 strikeouts this season. In his career, Berrios is 4-1 with a 1.67 ERA and 42 strikeouts against the White Sox.

The Chicago White Sox will be looking to build some steam after snapping a four game losing skid with the win on Thursday. Yolmer Sanchez and Daniel Palka each had two RBIs, with Palka going yard for his 2nd homer of the year while Trayce Thompson added a solo homer of his own. Matt Davidson and Omar Narvaez each had a double, with Davidson going 2 for 4 and Nicky Delmonico added a base knock of his own to cap off the offense for the Sox in the win. Reynaldo Lopez gave up five runs, four earned, on six hits over 6.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Nate Jones got the win to improve his record to 2-0 this season. Carson Fulmer will start game two and is 2-1 with a 4.32 ERA and 18 strikeouts this season. In his career, Fulmer is 0-1 with a 21.00 ERA and 1 strikeout against Minnesota.
Minnesota is 2-12 in their last 14 games overall and 2-11 in Berrios’ last 13 road starts while the over is 8-1 in their last 9 road games. Chicago is 2-10 in their last 12 home games and 6-20 in their last 26 games overall while the over is 3-0-1 in the Fulmer’s last 4 home starts. Minnesota is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings and 4-1 in Berrios’ last 5 starts against Chicago.
Berrios has been fade material on the road dating back to last season, however one team he’s had success against is the White Sox. Let’s face it. It’s still early, but Minnesota needs to turn things around quickly if they’re going to remain competitive later on in the year and it’s games like these that the Twins need to win. The price isn’t pretty, but I think the Twins rebound here behind a strong outing from Berrios.
