Out at Yankee Stadium on Friday, the Cleveland Indians and the New York Yankees will be kicking off their weekend MLB series.

The Indians are coming off a doubleheader set versus the Rangers. In those Thursday games, Cleveland lost a rain-delayed 11-inning outing 13-11 in game one, then scored nine runs in the fifth inning on the way to a 13-4 blowout in the nightcap.

For the Friday game, the Indians will be bringing out RHP Josh Tomlin. In his 18.2 innings and 0-4 record this year, Tomlin has a 9.16 ERA with 10 Ks and four BBs.

Tops in hitting for the Indians coming into Thursday was Francisco Lindor with 32 hits, 21 runs and 12 RBI. On Thursday, Lindor picked up two hits, two RBI and a run.

Over on the Yankees’ side, they just finished up with the defending champ Astros. New York lost the first game of that series then won the next two. On Thursday the Yanks jumped out to an early lead then coughed up five unanswered runs before snagging three of their own in the ninth inning in a tense 6-5 win.

New York is going with LHP CC Sabathia on Friday. In his 26.1 innings and 2-0 record this year, Sabathia has a 1.71 ERA with 16 Ks and five walks.

The Yankees’ leading hitter going into the Astros finale was Didi Gregorius with 35 hits, 26 runs, 10 homers and 30 RBI. On Thursday, Gregorius had a decent game with two hits and a run.

The Indians are 26-9 in their last 35 in game one of a series and 49-18 in their last 67 Friday games. Cleveland is also 17-7 in their last 24 versus the AL East and 1-4 in Tomlin’s last five Friday starts.

Meanwhile, the Yankees are 5-1 in their last six during game one of as series and 13-3 in their last 16 versus the AL Central. New York is also 9-4 in Sabathia’s last 13 starts and 16-5 in his last 21 home starts.

It’s been a tough couple of starts for Tomlin, who has given up 11 earned on 17 hits over his last 9.2 innings. As for Sabathia, he’s still finding ways to be effective with reduced velocity and has given up just one earned over his last three starts. I’m going to stick with the Yankees here as I’m not sure about Tomlin right now.
