Down at Estadio de Beisbol Monterrey in Mexico on Friday, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres will be kicking off their weekend MLB series.
The Dodgers are coming off a series versus Arizona. After losing the first two games, LA came back to get a 2-1 win Wednesday. On Thursday, the Dodgers got another win, this time 5-2.

For Friday’s game, the Dodgers will be starting Walker Buehler. Over 10.0 innings this year in two games, Buehler has a 1.80 ERA.
Heading into the Thursday game, Cody Bellinger led the Dodgers with 33 hits, 22 runs, four homers and 15 RBI. On Thursday Bellinger had a hit and an RBI.
Over on the Padres’ side, they just finished up against the Giants. San Diego split the first two games, then on Wednesday the Padres fell 9-4.
San Diego is sending out LHP Joey Lucchesi on Friday. In his 32.1 innings and 3-1 record this year, Lucchesi has a 2.78 ERA with 35 Ks and 10 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Padres this year are Jose Pirela and Eric Hosmer, with 33 hits apiece and 19 RBI between them. Freddy Galvis is third with 27 hits, 11 runs and nine RBI to his credit.
The Dodgers are 3-7 in their last 10 during game one of a series and 0-5 in their last five Friday games. The over is 5-1 in the Dodgers’ last six during game one of a series and 4-1-1 in their last six Friday games.
Meanwhile, the Padres are 3-8 in their last 11 versus a team with a losing record and 2-6 in their last eight overall. San Diego is also 1-5 in their last six home games and 1-7 in their last eight following an off day.
Lucchesi has been pretty solid overall this season, and he’s given up two earned runs or less in four of his six starts. LA is obviously the better team on paper, but if Lucchesi can come out firing here he could give them some trouble. Still, I’m going to take the Dodgers for the eventual victory.
