The Line: Washington Nationals -131 / Philadelphia Phillies +121 --- Over/Under: 8.5 See the Latest Odds

The Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Nationals square off in game one of a three game NL East set in MLB action on Friday.

The Philadelphia Phillies will look to build some steam after snapping a four game losing streak and avoiding the sweep with a 6-0 win over Miami in their series finale on Wednesday. Cesar Hernandez hit a solo homer, while Maikel Franco went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI and Pedro Florimon added a two-bagger of his own with an RBI. Odubel Herrera and Aaron Altherr each added a run on the board, while Rhys Hoskins, Jorge Alfaro and Aaron Nola each contributed base hits to cap off of the offense for Philadelphia in the win. Speaking of Nola, he got the win after tossing 7.1 shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out seven to improve to 4-1 this season with the win. Nick Pivetta will start game one and is 1-1 with a 3.27 ERA and 34 strikeouts this season. In his career, Pivetta is 0-1 with a 7.45 ERA and 11 strikeouts against Washington.

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Nationals will look to stay hot after winning five straight games, completing the four game sweep of the Pirates with a 3-1 victory in Thursday’s series finale. All of Washington’s damage was done via the long ball, with Trea Turner belting out a two run homer and Ryan Zimmerman hitting a solo shot to round out the scoring. Matt Wieters and Wilmer Difo each added a base hit as well to finish off the offense for the Nats in the victory. Jeremy Hellickson threw 5.2 scoreless innings, giving up just three hits, not factoring in the decision. Sammy Solis got the win to improve to 1-1 this season while Sean Doolittle notched his 6th save of the year. Gio Gonzalez will start the series opener and is 3-2 with a 2.67 ERA and 37 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gonzalez is 10-7 with a 2.69 ERA and 134 strikeouts against Philadelphia.

Philadelphia is 9-1 in Pivetta’s last 10 starts and 34-71 in their last 105 road games while the under is 3-0-1 in Pivetta’s last 4 division starts. Washington is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall and 5-0 in their last 5 home games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a right-handed starter. Philadelphia is 18-37 in the last 55 meetings between these two teams and 1-4 in the last 5 meetings in Washington.

The Phillies have been money with Pivetta on the mound dating back to last season, so the plus money is definitely worth a look here. However, the Phillies didn’t look very good in that losing skid including almost getting swept by the Marlins, one of the worst teams in the majors. Washington is red hot right now, and Gonzalez has a lot of experience against Philadelphia, so I’ll lay the reasonable juice with the Nationals on Friday.
