We have some interleague action on Saturday’s MLB slate, as the Houston Astros and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet in game two of their three game set from Chase Field on Saturday.
The Houston Astros will look to build some steam after snapping a three game losing streak with an 8-0 shutout in the series opener on Friday. Carlos Correa and Yuli Gurriel each had three RBIs, with Correa adding a pair of doubles while Gurriel went 4 for 5 with a double of his own. Jose Altuve also added a pair of doubles with an RBI, while Josh Reddick added a run to round out the scoring for the ‘Stros in the win. George Springer went 3 for 5, while Alex Bregman added a double and Max Stassi contributed a base hit of his own to cap off the offense for Houston in the win. Gerrit Cole was dominant in improving to 3-1 on the year, throwing a complete game one hitter, striking out a whopping 16 batters in the win. Charlie Morton will start game two and is 4-0 with a 1.72 ERA and 45 strikeouts this season. In his career, Morton is 4-1 with a 3.57 ERA and 38 strikeouts against Arizona.

The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to rebound after losing three in a row and four of six after being held to one hit in the loss on Friday. Chris Owings’ double in the 5th inning was the lone hit as the rest of the D-Backs went 0 for 25 with 14 strikeouts, including Alex Avila who struck out in all three of his at-bats. Owings, despite notching a hit, was one of six D-backs with at least two strikeouts in the losing effort. Kris Medlen took the loss, falling to 0-1 this season after allowing seven runs on nine hits while walking and striking out four apiece. Zack Greinke will start game two and is 3-2 with a 4.50 ERA and 42 strikeouts this season. In his career, Greinke is 6-2 with a 2.31 ERA and 56 strikeouts against Houston.
Houston is 5-1 in Morton’s last 6 road starts against a team with a winning record and 6-0 in their last 6 road games while the over is 4-0-1 in their last 5 road games. Arizona is 14-6 in their last 20 home games and 23-8 in Greinke’s last 31 home starts while the under is 4-1-1 in their last 6 games overall. Houston is 9-4 in the last 13 meetings between these two teams and 5-2 in the last 7 meetings in Arizona.
Up until now, if you gave me plus money with Greinke at home, I’d take it 95-99 times out of 100. This is one of those times where I don’t think I can take it as good of a proposition as it is. The Astros bounced back from a less than stellar series with the Yankees thanks to a dominant pitching performance from Cole and with how good Morton has been pitching, especially on the road, I don’t think it’s out of the question to see Houston take game two on Saturday so I’ll back the Astros to get the job done.
