The Houston Astros and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet in the finale of their three game interleague set from Chase Field in MLB action on Sunday.

The Houston Astros will be looking to rebound after losing game two on Saturday by a final score of 4-3. George Springer belted a solo home run for his 7th long ball of the season, while Brian McCann and Derek Fisher each had a double and an RBI to round out the scoring for the ‘Stros in defeat. Yuli Gurriel, Alex Bregman and starting pitcher Charlie Morton each added base hits as well to cap off the offense for Houston in the loss. Charlie Morton took the loss, after giving up three runs on three hits while walking four and striking out three over five innings of work. Chris Devenski ended up with the loss to drop to 1-1 this season. Justin Verlander will start game three and is 4-0 with a 1.13 ERA and 62 strikeouts this season. In his career, Verlander is 3-0 with a 2.61 ERA and 26 strikeouts against Arizona.

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to win back-to-back games and avoid a second straight series loss after evening up the series at one win apiece on Saturday. David Peralta went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, while A.J. Pollock added an RBI of his own in the winning effort in walk-off fashion. Daniel Descalso and starting pitcher Zack Greinke each added a double, while Jeff Mathis added a base hit to round out the offense for Arizona in the win. Greinke gave up just one run on five hits while striking out five over 5.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Brad Boxberger got the win to improve to 1-0 this season. Matt Koch will start the finale and is 1-0 with a 2.37 ERA and 14 strikeouts this season. This will be Koch’s first career start against Houston.

Houston is 7-1 in their last 8 road games and 14-3 in Verlander’s last 17 starts while the under is 7-0 in their last 7 interleague games. Arizona is 4-10 in their last 14 games against the AL West and 9-3 in their last 12 interleague home games while the under is 11-1-2 in their last 14 home games.

Koch has been very good in filling in for Taijuan Walker who went down for the season, however one could argue that Verlander has been the best pitcher in the game so far this season, with an ERA just over one this season. However there are certain things you just don’t do. You don’t run with scissors, you don’t eat yellow snow, and you don’t bet against Justin Verlander in interleague play. As if 14 wins in his last 17 starts overall wasn’t enough, Verlander is a career 31-5 with a 2.86 ERA over 43 interleague starts in his career. Yes please. I’ll take Houston to win the series behind a big game from their current ace.
