The Tigers pounded out 12 hits and walked three times with Nicholas Castellanos and Victor Martinez combining for five hits with a run and RBI each. Matthew Boyd will be on the bump for Sunday’s series finale’ at Kauffman Stadium. Boyd continued to throw the ball well last time out in a 2-1 win versus Tampa Bay with a run allowed over six frames.
The Kansas City Royals have been playing their best baseball of the season but the offense never got going in Saturday’s defeat at the hands of visiting Detroit. Kansas City starter Jason Hammel gave up all three runs in the first with ten hits allowed over 6.1 innings.
The Royals were limited to five hits and a trio of bass on balls with Abraham Almonte slugging his third homer while Alex Gordon knocked in Lucas Duda. Jakob Junis toes the rubber for the Royals against visiting Detroit on Sunday afternoon. Junis comes in off of a 7-6 win at Boston with a pair of runs given up over six innings pitched.
Detroit are 7-19 in their last 26 road games and over is 16-6-2 in Detroit last 24 Sunday games and Detroit are 25-57 in their last 82 games on grass. Kansas City are 7-3 in Junis' last 10 home starts. Over is 7-1 in Boyd’s last 8 starts vs. Kansas City.
Junis looks like the Royals best but Boyd has been throwing as well as anybody. Granted Boyd has been hit in this matchup but at this price I’d either do something on Detroit or walk away…
