The Boston Red Sox and the Texas Rangers square off in the finale of their three game set in MLB action on Sunday.

The Boston Red Sox will look to win the series after splitting their last eight games, evening up the set at one win apiece with a 6-5 win in game two on Saturday. Andrew Benintendi and Mitch Moreland each had two RBIs, with Moreland hitting a home run while Benintendi went 3 for 5 with a triple and a double. Hanley Ramirez and J.D. Martinez each added an RBI to cap off the scoring for Boston in the win, while Xander Bogaerts added a double of his own in the winning effort. Eduardo Rodriguez gave up all five runs on four hits while striking out ten over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Joe Kelly ended up with the win to improve to 1-0 while Craig Kimberly notched his 9th save of the season. Chris Sale will start the finale and is 2-1 with a 2.14 ERA and 51 strikeouts this season. In his career, Sale is 5-2 with a 3.34 ERA and 66 strikeouts against Texas.

Texas Rangers vs. Boston Red Sox - 5/6/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers will look to rebound after losing game two on Saturday. Delino DeShields led the Rangers with three RBIs, going 2 for 4 with a home run, while Joey Gallo hit a pair of solo homers to cap off the scoring for Texas in the loss. Shin-Soo Choo added a double while Robinson Chirinos added a base knock as well to round out the offense for Texas in the defeat. Cole Hamels gave up three runs, two earned, on five hits while striking out five over six innings of work. Alex Claudio notched his 2nd blown save of the year, while Keone Kela took the loss, falling to 2-2 this season. Doug Fister will start game three and is 1-2 with a 2.88 ERA and 20 strikeouts this season. In his career, Fister is 2-4 with a 4.36 ERA and 25 strikeouts against Boston.

Boston is 7-1 in Sale’s last 8 road starts against a team with a losing record and 23-8 in their last 31 games overall while the over is 10-3 in Sale’s last 13 starts overall. Texas is 7-21 in their last 28 home games and 2-6 in their last 8 games against a left-handed starter while the over is 6-1-1 in their last 8 games overall. Boston is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.

Texas has shown some serious grit in this series, winning the opener and dropping a heartbreaker in game two, but the Rangers had their chances. However, Chris Sale is still one of baseball’s elite flamethrowers and while Fisher is a decent arm in the Texas rotation, Sale is simply on another level and I think Boston rides his arm to a big win in the finale on Sunday.
