The Line: Philadelphia Phillies -113 / San Francisco Giants +103 --- Over/Under: 8.5 See the Latest Odds

The San Francisco Giants and the Philadelphia Phillies square off in the opener of a four game set in MLB action on Monday.

The San Francisco Giants will look to stay hot after winning four straight and seven of their last eight games following a sweep of Atlanta, including a 4-3 win in the series finale on Sunday. Gregor Blanco, Andrew McCutchen, Nick Hundley and Pablo Sandoval each had RBIs in the win, while Brandon Crawford and Alen Hanson each went 2 for 4 with a double. Brandon Belt and Austin Jackson each contributed base hits as well in the winning effort for the Giants. Andrew Suarez got the win to improve to 1-1 this season, giving up just an unearned run on seven hits while striking out six over 5.1 innings of work. Hunter Strickland got his 8th save of the year after closing out a shaky 9th inning. Jeff Samardzija will start game one and is 1-1 with a 5.27 ERA and 12 strikeouts this season. In his career, Samardzija is 2-4 with an 8.18 ERA and 32 strikeouts against Philadelphia.

Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Phillies will look to rebound after splitting their last four games and losing six of their last eight following a series-ending 5-4 loss to Washington on Sunday. Maikel Franco hit a solo homer, while Rhys Hoskins, Odubel Herrera and Nick Williams each adding an RBI to round out the scoring for Philly in the loss, with Hoskins adding a double and Herrera contributing a pair of two-baggers of his own. Carlos Santana also added a double while Pedro Florimon chipped in a base knock as well to cap off the offense for Philadelphia in defeat. Jake Arrieta gave up one run on two hits over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Hector Neris received his 2nd blown save and received the loss, falling to 1-2 this season after giving up the walk-off to the Nats. Zach Eflin will start the opener and is 0-0 with a 1.50 ERA and 4 strikeouts this season. In his career, Eflin is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA and 7 strikeouts against San Francisco.

San Francisco is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall and 8-3 in Samardzija’s last 11 series opening starts while the under is 8-2 in their last 10 road games against a right-handed starter. Philadelphia is 1-9 in Eflin’s last 10 starts and 2-6 in their last 8 games overall while the over is 5-0-1 in their last 6 games against the NL West. San Francisco is 2-5 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in Philadelphia.

There’s no denying that Eflin was very good in his first start of the year, however the Phillies have had barely any success with him on the mound dating back to last season. We cashed in on San Fran as an underdog on Sunday, and while Samardzija isn’t the easiest arm to stomach in the Giants’ rotation, I think San Francisco is playing well enough to warrant a shot at the plus money on Monday.
