We have an NL West showdown as the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Dodgers meet in game one of a three game set from Dodger Stadium in MLB action on Tuesday night.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to build momentum after winning their series with the defending champions, taking down Houston in the rubber match on Sunday by a final score of 3-1. A.J. Pollock went 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs, while Daniel Descalso went 2 for 3 with a double and David Peralta added a base hit of his own to round out the offense for the D-Backs as Arizona mustered up just five hits as a team in the win. Matt Koch got the win, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out three over 6.1 innings of work, while Brad Boxberger recorded three strikeouts in the 9th for his 11th save of the year. Zack Godley will start game one and is 4-2 with a 3.41 ERA and 33 strikeouts this season. In his career, Godley is 2-3 with a 3.50 ERA and 39 strikeouts against the Dodgers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to rebound after dropping their series with the Padres, losing the rubber match by a final score of 3-0 on Sunday. Matt Kemp went 2 for 5 with a double and Cody Bellinger added a pair of hits of his own, while Austin Barnes, Kyle Farmer, Joc Peterson and Tim Locastro each added base hits to cap off the efforts for Los Angeles in the loss. Ross Stripling threw four shutout innings, giving up just four hits while striking out five, not factoring in the decision. Tony Cingrani took the loss, falling to 0-2 this season. Rich Hill will start game one and is 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA and 16 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hill is 1-6 with a 5.50 ERA and 54 strikeouts against Arizona.
Arizona is 21-10 in their last 31 games overall and 24-9 in their last 33 games against a left-handed starter while the under is 5-0-1 in their last 6 games overall. Los Angeles is 7-3 in Hill’s last 10 starts and 4-9 in their last 13 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 home games. Los Angeles is 2-5 in Hill’s last 7 starts against Arizona.
If we’re being completely honest here, I don’t have a single clue why the Dodgers are favorites here. Hill hasn’t started in over three weeks, and in his last start, he was blasted for seven runs in five innings. Sure, blister issues may have hindered his performance that day, but Hill hasn’t had blister issues in his entire career, a career in which he has a 1-6 career record against the D-Backs. Godley has already faced the Dodgers three time this season, and while he only has one win and got lit up for five earned in one of those three, Godley has still thrown two one run starts against L.A. this season and if he can do something similar on Tuesday, I like the D-Backs to draw first blood.
