The New York Mets and the Cincinnati Reds duke it out in the rubber match of their three game set from Great American Ballpark in MLB action on Wednesday afternoon.

The New York Mets are in dire need of another win after losing 15 of their last 22 games, including a 7-2 loss in game two on Tuesday. Wilmer Flores put up a solo home run, while Adrian Gonzalez added an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for the Mets in the loss. Asdrubal Cabrera went 2 for 4 while Amed Rosario and Juan Lagares each added base hits to cap off the Mets’ offense as New York put up just six hits as a team. Jason Vargas took the loss, falling to 0-3 this season, giving up four runs on six hits over just four innings of work. Zack Wheeler will start the finale and is 2-2 with a 5.79 ERA and 24 strikeouts this season. In his career, Wheeler is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA and 6 strikeouts against Cincinnati.

Cincinnati Reds vs. New York Mets - 5/9/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

The Cincinnati Reds will look to build some steam after snapping a three game losing streak with the win on Tuesday. Eugenio Suarez led the Reds with four RBIs, going 3 for 4 with a double while Scooter Gennett added two RBIs with a homer and Tucker Barnhart added an RBI, while going 3 for 4 with a triple to finish off the scoring for the Reds in the win. Scott Schebler went 2 for 5 with a double while Jose Peraza, Adam Duvall and Billy Hamilton all added base hits as well to cap off the offense for Cincinnati in the victory. Luis Castillo got the win, improving to 2-4 this season after giving up both runs on three hits while striking out seven. Sal Romano will start game three and is 2-3 with a 4.21 ERA and 19 strikeouts this season. In his career, Romano is 1-0 with a 4.09 ERA and 11 strikeouts against the Mets.

New York is 1-6 in their last 7 games overall and 1-5 in Wheeler’s last 6 starts against the NL Central while the over is 5-1-1 in their last 7 road games. Cincinnati is 5-1 in Romano’s last 6 starts against the NL East and 13-38 in their last 51 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record. New York is 24-5 in the last 29 meetings between these two teams and 19-7 in the last 26 meetings in Cincinnati.

New York has owned the Reds in this matchup and I’m a bit gun shy pulling the trigger on the Reds at even or plus money, at home no less. However, Wheeler has struggled against the NL Central and is fresh off of a start where he allowed eight runs in six innings. Romano isn’t an ace by any stretch, but he’s allowed two runs or less in each of his last four starts. Granted, Romano didn’t go very deep into the game, but the Reds have had some luck with him on the mound against the NL East, so while I don’t feel great about it, I feel the value is with the Reds and the even money on Wednesday.
