The Washington Nationals and the Arizona Diamondbacks duke it out in game two of their four game set from Chase Field in MLB action on Friday night.
The Washington Nationals will look to stay hot after winning 10 of their last 12 games, including a 2-1 win in 11 innings to open the series with the D-Backs on Thursday. Matt Adams went 1 for 5 with an RBI, while Howie Kendrick, Pedro Severino and Michael A. Taylor each added a double. Bryce Harper, Matt Wieters and Andrew Stevenson each contributed base hits as well in the winning effort. Tanner Roark went seven innings, giving up just the one run on four hits while striking out four, not factoring in the decision. Brandon Kintzler got the win to improve to 1-2 while Sean Doolittle picked up his 6th save of the year. Max Scherzer will start game two and is 6-1 with a 1.74 ERA and 80 strikeouts this season. In his career, Scherzer is 5-0 with a 3.13 ERA and 64 strikeouts against Arizona.

The Arizona Diamondbacks will be looking to rebound from back-to-back losses after their defeat in game one on Thursday. Starting pitcher Zack Greinke helped his own cause by going 1 for 2 with the team’s lone run in the loss, while Daniel Descalso went 2 for 5 with a double and David Peralta added a pair of hits of his own in the loss. Steven Souza Jr., Ketel Marte and Jarrod Dyson each contributed base hits as well in the losing effort for the D-Backs. Zack Greinke gave up one run on four hits while striking out six over seven innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Fernando Salas took the loss, falling to 3-4 this season. Matt Koch will start game two and is 2-0 with a 2.13 ERA and 17 strikeouts this season. In his career, Koch is 0-0 with a 3.60 ERA and 3 strikeouts against Washington.
Washington is 10-2 in their last 12 games overall and 13-3 in Scherzer’s last 16 starts against the NL West while the under is 33-16-6 in their last 55 road games. Arizona is 4-1 in Koch’s last 5 starts and 16-7 in their last 23 home games while the under is 5-2-1 in their last 8 games overall. Washington is 5-1 in Scherzer’s last 6 starts against Arizona.
The plus money is really tempting with Arizona given how the Diamondbacks are a strong team at home and Koch has pitched very well to start the season. However, Scherzer is once again a force to be reckoned with, and has flat out owned his former team in his career, sitting with a 5-0 record. I think the D-Backs offense scuffles again as Scherzer throws a gem and the Nats win by a couple here.
