The Washington Nationals and the Arizona Diamondbacks square off in game three of their four game set from Chase Field in MLB action on Saturday.
The Washington Nationals will look to stay hot after winning 11 of their last 13 games by taking game two by a final score of 3-1 on Friday. Trea Turner and Anthony Rendon hit solo homers, while starting pitcher Max Scherzer added an RBI ground-rule double to round out the scoring for the Nats in the win. Bryce Harper added a double while Michael A. Taylor and Pedro Severino each contributed a base hit in the winning effort for Washington. Speaking of Scherzer, he got the win to improve to 7-1 this season, giving up just the one run on four hits while striking out eleven over seven innings of work. Sean Doolittle struck out a pair in the scoreless 9th for his 8th save of the season. Stephen Strasburg will start game three and is 4-3 with a 3.52 ERA and 59 strikeouts this season. In his career, Strasburg is 4-3 with a 3.59 ERA and 49 strikeouts against Arizona.

The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to rebound after dropping the first two games of the set, pushing their losing skid to three games. David Peralta’s solo homer was the lone RBI for the D-Backs in the loss, while Ketel Marte added a triple and Jarrod Dyson and Paul Goldschmidt each added base hits of their own in the losing effort. Matt Koch took the loss after giving up all three runs on seven hits while striking out three to fall to 2-1 this season. Troy Scribner will start game three and will be making his regular season debut after going 2-1 with a 4.18 ERA and 18 strikeouts for the Angels last season. This will be Scribner’s first career start against Washington.
Washington is 25-6 in Strasburg’s last 31 road starts and 11-2 in their last 13 games overall while the under is 35-16-6 in their last 57 road games. Arizona is 6-2 in their last 8 games against a right-handed starter and 4-0 in their last 4 games after falling behind 0-2 in a series while the under is 7-2-1 in their last 10 games overall. Washington is 8-1 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams in Arizona.
As tough as the D-Backs are at home, they’ve fallen on tough times right now, and it doesn’t get tougher than a spot start from Scribner, making his regular season debut against a Washington lineup that’s firing on all cylinders right now. Strasburg has been up and down and more so than we’re accustomed to seeing, but with all things considered, this is a game I see the Nats winning by a couple of runs and going for the four game sweep on Sunday.
