The Battle of Chicago reaches its finale on Sunday as the White Sox and the Cubs square off in the finale of their three game set from Wrigley Field.
The Chicago White Sox are in dire need after losing seven straight and 11 of their last 12 games following an 8-4 loss in game two on Saturday. Matt Davidson led the White Sox, going 1 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, while Jose Abreu went 2 for 5 with a double and an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for the White Sox. Adam Engel went 3 for 4 with a double of his own, while Welington Castillo and Leury Garcia added base hits of their own in the loss. James Shields took the loss, falling to 1-4 this season after allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out four over six innings of work. Lucas Giolito will start game three and is 1-4 with a 7.25 ERA and 21 strikeouts this season. This will be Giolito’s first career start against the Cubs.

The Chicago Cubs will look to complete the sweep after taking the first two games of the set, including their victory in game two on Saturday. Anthony Rizzo and Willson Contreras each had three RBIs with a home run, with Contreras hitting 3 for 5 at the dish. David Both and Mark Zagunis each had RBIs of their own to round out the scoring for the Cubbies in the win, while Javier Baez went 2 for 5 with a triple. Addison Russell added a base hit of his own to cap off the offense for the Cubs in the victory. Jon Lester got the win to improve to 3-1 this season after giving up one run on four hits while striking out five over 5.2 innings of work. Brandon Morrow struck out a pair in the 9th for his 9th save of the year. Kyle Hendricks will start game three and is 3-2 with a 3.02 ERA and 32 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hendricks is 0-1 with a 3.98 ERA and 19 strikeouts against the White Sox.
The White Sox are 1-5 in Giolito’s last 6 starts and 6-24 in their last 30 games overall while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games overall. The Cubs are 6-1 in their last 7 home games against a right-handed starter and 5-2 in Hendricks’ last 7 home starts against a team with a losing record while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 home games. The White Sox are 0-4 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
As tempting as this kind of plus money is, there’s just no backing the White Sox and Giolito right now as both are struggling. The Cubs are up and down, but they’re a better option between the two here. To negate the heavy juice, I’m going to side with the Cubs on the run line as the White Sox have lost by two runs or more six times during this seven game losing streak.
