The San Francisco Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates meet Sunday in MLB action at PNC Park.
The San Francisco Giants need a victory here in order to snap a six-game losing streak. The Giants have allowed 23 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in eight of their last 10 games. The San Francisco Giants have lost eight of their last 12 games when allowing more than three runs. Offensively, Buster Posey leads the Giants with 37 hits and 14 RBI while Evan Longoria and Brandon Belt have combined for 70 hits and 39 RBI. Derek Holland gets the ball, and he is 1-4 with a 5.66 ERA and 32 strikeouts this season. This will be Holland’s first career game against the Pirates.

The Pittsburgh Pirates look to stay hot after winning six of their last seven games. The Pirates have scored 23 runs in their last three games and six or more runs in six of their last seven games. The Pittsburgh Pirates have won six straight games when scoring more than three runs. Starling Marte leads the Pirates with 46 hits and 19 RBI while Corey Dickerson and Josh Bell have combined for 81 hits and 48 RBI. Ivan Nova gets the ball, and he is 2-2 with a 4.84 ERA and 37 strikeouts this season. Nova is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA and 19 strikeouts in his career against the Giants.
The Giants are 17-36 in their last 53 road games, 0-4 in Hollands last 4 road starts and 2-5 in Hollands last 7 starts. The Pirates are 8-1 in their last 9 Sunday games, 10-3 in their last 13 during game 3 of a series and 7-2 in Novas last 9 home starts. The Giants are 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Pittsburgh and 5-3 in the last 8 meetings.
The San Francisco Giants are back to struggling putting offense together and all the injuries to their pitching staff are catching up to them on this road trip. It's getting ugly quickly for the Giants, and Holland hasn't done much this season to provide much confidence. However, Nova has allowed a combined 17 hits and 13 runs in his last 6.2 innings. Nova is also allowing a .284 batting average this season and a .298 batting average with 17 RBI in 114 career at bats against current Giants. Longoria, Belt and Justin Jackson have all hit Nova hard when faced him. So, while the Giants aren't a team I'm impressed with at the moment, there's value with the plus money here.
