On Monday up at Wrigley Field, the Atlanta Braves and the Chicago Cubs will be meeting up for a makeup game before heading down to Atlanta for their three-game series.
The Braves are coming off a set versus the Marlins. After winning two of the first three games, in the Sunday finale Atlanta got another one 4-3.

For the Monday game, the Braves will be bringing out RHP Julio Teheran. In his 43.0 innings and 3-1 mark this year, Teheran has a 3.14 ERA with 42 Ks and 18 BBs.
Atlanta’s leading hitter coming out of the week was Nick Markakis with 53 hits, 28 runs, seven homers and 29 RBI. On Sunday, Markakis had a hit and an RBI.
As for the Cubs, they just finished up against the White Sox this weekend. The Cubs took Friday’s game 11-2 and Saturday’s 8-4. On Sunday, the Sox bounced back to avoid the sweep as Chicago lost 5-3.
On Monday, the Cubs will be going with LHP Jose Quintana. In his 36.2 innings and 4-2 record this season, Quintana has a 4.42 ERA with 32 Ks and 18 BBs.
Chicago’s top bat coming out of the week was Javier Baez with 39 hits, 27 runs, 10 homers and 34 RBI. In the Sunday game, Baez had a hit and two RBI.
The Braves are 6-14 in their last 20 versus the NL Central and 2-11 in their last 13 Monday games. Atlanta is also 4-1 in Teheran’s last five starts and 2-7 in his last nine Monday starts.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are 4-0 in their last four versus the NL East and 22-8 in their last 30 in game one of a series. Chicago is also 37-16 in their last 53 Monday games and 10-1 in Quintana’s last 11 home starts.
Teheran has had a couple of bad starts this year, but for the most part he’s been very good. In five of Teheran’s last six starts, he’s posted two earned or fewer. Quintana has been good as well, giving up just one earned over his last three starts in 17.0 innings. This should be a fun pitching matchup, but eventually I expect the Cubs offense to break through and get a win.
