On Monday, the Indians will be bringing out RHP Carlos Carrasco. In his 52.1 innings and 5-1 record this season, Carrasco has a 3.61 ERA with 53 Ks and 11 BBs.
Heading into this week, the Indians’ leading hitter was Francisco Lindor with 50 hits, 33 runs, 12 homers and 24 RBI. On Sunday, Lindor had three hits, a run and an RBI.
As for the Tigers, they just finished up against Seattle. After splitting the Saturday doubleheader, Detroit eked one out in walk-off fashion 5-4.
In the Monday game, Detroit will be going with RHP Mike Fiers. In 32.1 innings this year, Fiers is 3-2 with a 4.73 ERA and 21 Ks.
Nick Castellanos led the Tigers coming out of the week with 47 hits, 20 runs, three homers and 23 RBI. In the Sunday game, Niko Goodrum put up a homer, three hits and two runs.
The Indians are 20-6 in their last 26 Monday games and 0-4 in their last four during game one of a series. Cleveland is also 5-0 in Carrasco’s last five Monday starts and 45-21 in his last 66 starts.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 17-35 in their last 52 during game one of a series and 1-6 in their last seven Monday games. The under is 14-5 in Detroit’s last 19 versus the AL Central and they’re 15-37 in their last 52 versus the AL Central.
After a pretty good run of starts, Carrasco hit a rough patch early this month with 10 earned in 8.1 innings on 14 hits over two starts. That said, Carrasco did bounce back his last time up, taking a complete-game win with 14 strikeouts and two earned in Milwaukee. Overall Carrasco has been pretty solid, so I’m going to trust him here and take the Indians for the win.
