The Tampa Bay Rays and Kansas City Royals meet Monday in MLB action at Kauffman Stadium.

The Tampa Bay Rays could use a feel good victory here after losing eight of their last 11 games. The Rays have allowed 26 runs in their last three games and five or more runs in four of their last five games. The Tampa Bay Rays have lost five straight games when allowing more than three runs. Offensively, C.J. Cron leads the Rays with 41 hits and 23 RBI while Matt Duffy and Mallex Smith have combined for 69 hits and 20 RBI. Ryan Yarbrough gets the ball, and he is 2-2 with a 4.30 ERA and 27 strikeouts this season. This will be Yarbrough’s first career game against the Royals.

The Kansas City Royals could also use a win here after losing four of their last five games. The Royals have allowed 26 runs in their last three games and five or more runs in six straight games. The Kansas City Royals have lost six of their last nine games when more than two runs. Offensively, Mike Moustakas leads the Royals with 47 hits and 29 RBI while Jon Jay and Whit Merrifield have combined for 86 hits and 21 RBI. Eric Skoglund gets the ball, and he is 1-2 with a 6.34 ERA and 28 strikeouts this season. This will be Skoglund’s first career game against the Rays.

The Rays are 5-1 in their last 6 Monday games, 6-2 in their last 8 during game 1 of a series and 1-4 in their last 5 road games. The Royals are 6-15 in their last 21 during game 1 of a series, 1-4 in their last 5 Monday games and 3-7 in Skoglunds last 10 starts. The Rays are 6-20 in the last 26 meetings in Kansas City, 9-25 in the last 34 meetings and the over is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings in Kansas City.

It's no secret that neither of these teams are good, but I'm not laying juice with the Royals. Skoglund has allowed three or more runs in five of his six starts and has an ERA over six at home in 16.1 innings. Besides his last performance against the Braves, Yarbrough has actually been pretty decent this season, which includes allowing a .198 batting average in 29.1 innings and averaging just under a strikeout per inning. As more of a fade from the Royals, I'm siding with the Rays and the slight plus money. However, back a team that's lost eight of its last 11 at your own risk.
