The Texas Rangers and the Seattle Mariners meet in game one of a three game AL West division showdown from Safeco Field in MLB action on Tuesday.
The Texas Rangers will look to rebound after losing their series with the division leading Astros, dropping the final two games of the series on Saturday and Sunday by an identical 6-1 score line. In Sunday’s defeat. Carlos Perez’s solo homer was the only run Texas would score and was Perez’s first dinger of the season. Shin-Soo Choo went 2 for 4 and Jurickson Profar added a double while Adrian Beltre and Rougned Odor each chipped in base hits as well to round out the offense for Texas in the loss. Matt Moore took the loss, falling to 1-5 this season after allowing three runs on six hits while walking three and striking out five over just three innings of work. Mike Minor will start the series opener and is 3-2 with a 4.72 ERA and 32 strikeouts this season. In his career, Minor is 1-1 with a 1.65 ERA and 20 strikeouts against Seattle.

The Seattle Mariners will look to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 13 games, including a narrow 1-0 win over Minnesota in a makeup game on Monday night. Jean Segura’s sacrifice bunt accounted for the lone run in the ball game and it didn’t come until the 8th innings, going 2 for 3 at the dish. The other four hits from Ben Games, Ryon Healy, Jean Segura and Dee Gordon were all doubles. Wade LeBlanc put up six shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out four, not factoring in the decision. James Pazos got the win, while Edwin Diaz struck out the side in the 9th for his 14th save of the season. Mike Leake will start game one and is 4-3 with a 5.72 ERA and 32 strikeouts this season. In his career, Leake is 1-1 with a 1.99 ERA and 24 strikeouts against Texas.
Texas is 2-5 in their last 7 road games and 10-23 in their last 33 division matchups while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games overall. Seattle is 6-1 in their last 7 Tuesday games and 8-3 in their last 11 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400 while the over is 7-1 in Leake’s last 8 starts overall.
Texas definitely has a rest advantage given that the Mariners will be flying from Minnesota back to Seattle for this one. However, I just don’t trust Mike Minor on the mound as he’s given up three or more runs in four of his last five starts. Sure, that one start in the middle with one earned over 5.1 innings was against this same Mariners team, but Seattle is the better team here in much better form and they’re easier to trust, so I’ll lay the juice with the Mariners to draw first blood on Tuesday.
