For Wednesday’s matchup, the Cubs’ starter will be RHP Tyler Chatwood In his 37.2 innings and 3-3 record this year, Chatwood has a 3.35 ERA with 38 Ks and 32 BBs.
The Cubs’ top hitter this year is Javier Baez, who had 40 hits, 27 runs, 10 homers and 36 RBI coming into Tuesday. In the Tuesday game, Baez was 0-for-4.
Over on the Braves’ side, they’re going with Brandon McCarthy on Wednesday. Across 40.1 innings and a 4-2 mark this year, McCarthy has a 5.58 ERA with 30 Ks and 15 BBs.
Entering game two of this set, Nick Markakis led the way for the Braves on 56 hits, 30 runs, seven homers and 30 RBI. On Tuesday, Markakis was 0-for-4.
The Cubs are 9-4 in their last 13 Wednesday games and the under is 4-1-1 in Chatwood’s last six starts on grass. The under is 10-4 in the Cubs’ last 14 in game three of a series and the over is 4-1-1 in Chatwood’s last six starts overall.
Meanwhile, the Braves are 6-0 in their last six Wednesday games and 10-1 in their last 11 during game three of a series. Atlanta is 4-0 in McCarthy’s last four starts in game three of a series and 4-1 in his last five starts versus a team with a winning record.
Chatwood has been pretty solid overall this year, but does have five earned over his last two starts in 9.0 innings on six hits. McCarthy had been good for a while there, but has surrendered 14 earned on 23 hits over his last two starts in 8.1 innings. There’s no way I’m trusting McCarthy right now, so the pick for me is the Cubs.
