The Line: New York Mets +105 / Toronto Blue Jays -125 --- Over/Under: 8 See the Latest Odds

The Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Mets square off in the finale of their mini two game interleague set from Citi Field in MLB action on Wednesday.

The Toronto Blue Jays will look to rebound and salvage a split after losing three straight following a 12-2 beatdown in game one on Tuesday. Yangervis Solarte went 1 for 4 with both Toronto RBIs, while Josh Donaldson added a double. Curtis Grandson, Justin Smoak, Teoscar Hernandez and Deck McGuire each added base hits as well, as Toronto put up just six hits as a team in the loss. Jaime Garcia took the loss, falling to 2-3 this season after allowing six runs on six hits while walking and striking out three over just 3.2 innings of work. J.A. Happ will start the series finale and is 4-3 with a 4.80 ERA and 56 strikeouts this season. In his career, Happ is 3-2 with a 4.41 ERA and 39 strikeouts against the Mets.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Mets will look to build some steam after splitting their last six games, including their win on Tuesday. Juan Lagares led the Mets, going 4 for 5 with a triple and three RBIs. Amed Rosario, Noah Syndergaard and Devin Mesoraco each had two RBIs, with Mesoraco going 2 for 2 with a homer, while Syndergaard and Rosario each added a double. Brandon Nimmo, Asdrubal Cabrera and Luis Guillorme each had an RBI, with Cabrera adding a two-bagger of his own, capping off the Mets’ scoring in the win. Jay Bruce added a double of his own, while Jose Reyes and Adrian Gonzalez each chipped in base hits as well in the victory. Syndergaard got the win, giving up both runs on five hits while striking out seven over five innings of work. Zack Wheeler will start game two and is 2-2 with a 5.03 ERA and 31 strikeouts this season. This will be Wheeler’s first career start against Toronto.

Toronto is 4-1 in Happ’s last 5 road starts and 3-7 in their last 10 games overall while the over is 7-0 in their last 7 games against the NL East. New York is 1-6 in their last 7 home games and 2-8 in Wheeler’s last 10 starts against a team with a winning record while the under is 7-0 in their last 7 home games against a left-handed starter. Toronto is 0-5 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in New York.

Toronto definitely didn’t come to play in the opener as the Mets appeared to finally exorcise their demons at home. However, I’m still not sold on Wheeler, even though he only gave up one earned in six innings in his last start, I still flash back to the previous start where he allowed eight runs to the Rockies. Happ has experience playing at Citi Field from his time with the Phillies, and he’s been a reliable arm for the Jays this season, so I’ll back Toronto to salvage a split on Wednesday.
