Up at Rogers Centre on Thursday, the Oakland Athletics and the Toronto Blue Jays will be kicking off their MLB series.
The A’s are coming off a set versus the Red Sox. Oakland took the first two games 6-5 and 5-3, then on Wednesday, the A’s lost 6-4.
On Thursday, the A’s will be bringing out RHP Andrew Triggs. In his 39.0 innings and 3-1 record this year, Triggs has a 5.31 ERA with 42 Ks and 16 BBs.
Heading into the Sox finale, the A’s leading hitter was Jed Lowrie with 55 hits, 17 runs, nine homers and 36 RBI. On Wednesday, Lowrie was 0-for-2 with a pair of walks.
Over on the Jays’ side, they just completed a set versus the Mets. Toronto lost the Tuesday game 12-2, then on Wednesday got it back with a 12-1 win.
For the Thursday game, the Jays are going with RHP Aaron Sanchez. In his 46.1 innings and 2-3 record this year, Sanchez has a 4.08 ERA with 32 Ks and 25 BBs.
Kevin Pillar was the top Jays hitter entering Wednesday with 48 hits, 25 runs, four homers and 17 RBI. On Wednesday, Pillar had a pair of hits and an RBI.
The A’s are 5-2 in their last seven in game one of a series and 2-6 in their last eight Thursday games. The over is 10-1-1 in Oakland’s last 12 during game one of a series and the under is 4-1-1 in their last six Thursday games.
Meanwhile, the Jays are 1-7 in their last eight Thursday games and 11-3 in Sanchez’s last 14 starts in game one of a series. Toronto is also 1-4 in Sanchez’s last five home starts and 1-5 in his last six starts on turf.
Sanchez hasn’t exactly been super-overpowering this year, but for the most part he’s been a fairly solid starter for the Jays. In his last pair of outings, he’s given up four earned on 10 hits in 8.2 innings. That said, the A’s seem to be showing some promise lately, so I’m going to go with Oakland here.
