The Texas Rangers and the Chicago White Sox square off in game two of their four game set from Guaranteed Rate Field in MLB action on Friday night.
The Texas Rangers will look to rebound after dropping game one on Thursday by a final score of 4-2. Nomar Mazara was 1 for 4 with a triple and an RBI, while Shin-Soo Choo went 2 for 4 with an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for Texas in the loss. Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Robinson Chirinos and Ronald Guzman each contributed base hits of their own in the losing effort for the Rangers. Doug Fisher threw seven shutout innings, striking out four while giving up just six hits, not factoring in the decision. Jose Leclerc took the loss, giving up all four unearned runs, falling to 1-1 while also taking his second blown save of the year. Matt Moore will start game two and is 1-5 with a 7.82 ERA and 28 strikeouts this season. In his career, Moore is 5-1 with a 1.67 ERA and 43 strikeouts against the White Sox.

The Chicago White Sox will look to build some steam after their series opening win on Thursday. Welington Castillo had two RBIs, while Matt Davidson and Yolmer Sanchez each added an RBI to finish off the scoring for the White Sox in the win. Yoan Moncada went 3 for 4 with a double, while Jose Abreu, Nicky Delmonico, Leury Garcia and Trayce Thompson each added a base hit to cap off Chicago’s offense in the win. James Shields gave up one run on three hits while striking out eight over 7.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Luis Avilan got the win to improve to 1-0 this season, while Nate Jones closed out the 9th for his second save of the year. Carson Fulmer will start game two and is 2-3 with a 6.23 ERA and 27 strikeouts this season. This will be Fulmer’s first career start against Texas.
Texas is 1-5 in their last 6 games overall and 1-5 in their last 6 road games while the over is 5-2-1 in their last 8 games against the AL Central. Chicago is 2-8 in their last 10 games against the AL West and 1-4 in Fulmer’s last 5 starts against a team with a losing record while the over is 5-1 in Fulmer’s last 6 starts overall. Texas is 5-12 in the last 17 meetings between these two teams.
The White Sox have had the upper hand in this matchup, including Thursday’s series opener, making the plus money at home worth a look here. However, I’m not sure how anyone can back the White Sox given how Fulmer has looked in his last couple of starts, surrendering ten runs, nine earned, in 5.1 innings of work. On the other hand, I don’t trust Moore as far as I can throw him. Two starters who have Christmas tree potential all over them? Yeah, I’m siding with the over in this one.
