We have some NL Central action on the diamond on Friday as the Chicago Cubs take on the Cincinnati Reds in game one of their four game MLB set.
The Chicago Cubs come into this one rested after having their series finale with the Braves postponed, ultimately ending with a series loss after their 4-1 loss in game three on Wednesday. Kris Bryant led the Cubbies with the lone RBI while going 3 for 4 with a double. Addison Russell added a double as well, while Albert Almora Jr., Willson Contreras, Javier Baez and Ian Happ all added base hits in the loss. Tyler Chatwood gave up one run in 5.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision, while Carl Edwards Jr. took the loss to fall to 2-1 this season. Kyle Hendricks will get the nod in the opener and is 3-3 with a 3.20 ERA and 38 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hendricks is 4-1 with a 3.41 ERA and 52 strikeouts against Cincinnati.

The Cincinnati Reds had a day off as well after salvaging a win from their series with San Francisco, taking the finale by a final score of 6-3 on Wednesday. Adam Duvall went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs, while Scooter Gennett added a solo homer, a double and an RBI and Joey Votto added an RBI of his own. Jose Peraza and Alex Blandino each had two hits to cap off the offense for the Reds in the victory. Matt Harvey gave up all three runs on seven hits while striking out five over four innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Jared Hughes got the win to improve to 2-2 this season, while Raisel Iglesias notched his 8th save of the season. Homer Bailey will start game one and is 1-5 with a 5.59 ERA and 29 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bailey is 8-3 with a 4.53 ERA and 97 strikeouts against the Cubs.
Chicago is 5-0 in Hendricks’ last 5 series opening starts and 1-5 in their last 6 road games while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 division matchups. Cincinnati is 5-16 in Bailey’s last 21 home starts and 17-39 in their last 56 games overall while the over is 8-2 in Bailey’s last 10 home starts against a team with a winning record. Cincinnati is 0-4 in Bailey’s last 4 starts against the Cubs while Chicago is 4-1 in Hendricks’ last 5 starts against Cincinnati.
The Cubs are one of the teams Bailey has had a lot of career success against so the plus money is worth a look. However, that success hasn’t happened lately, and Bailey has given up three runs or more in his last six starts and in seven of his last eight trips to the mound. Hendricks hasn’t been dominant in terms of ERA and batting average against this season, but the Cubs tend to do well with him on the mound against Cincinnati, and the Cubs lineup is somewhat easier to trust, so I’ll lay the juice with the Cubs here.
