The Tampa Bay Rays and the Los Angeles Angels duke it out in game two of their four game set from Angels Stadium in MLB action on Friday night.
The Tampa Bay Rays will look to stay hot after pushing their winning streak to four games with a 7-1 series opening win over the Angels on Thursday. Denard Span and Johnny Field each had a two-run home run with Field going 3 for 4 at the dish. C.J. Cron hit a solo homer for his team-high 11th homer of the year, while Daniel Robertson added an RBI of his own in the win. Brad Miller and Christian Arroyo each went 2 for 5 while Adeiny Hechavarria and Joey Wendle each added base hits of their own to cap off the offense for the Rays in the win. Chris Archer got the win to improve to 3-3 this season, throwing 6.2 shutout innings, striking out five while giving up just two hits. Blake Snell will start game two and is 4-3 with a 3.12 ERA and 53 strikeouts this season. In his career, Snell is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA and 7 strikeouts against the Angels.

The Los Angeles Angels will look to snap a three game skid after their loss in game one on Thursday. Shohei Ohtani’s solo homer in the bottom of the 9th was the lone consolation run for the Halos in the loss. Justin Upton and Andrelton Simmons each added a base hit in the losing effort as the Angels mustered up just three hits as a team in defeat. Tyler Skaggs took the loss after giving up one run on six hits while striking out seven over six innings of work to fall to 3-3 this season. Nick Tropeano will start game two and is 1-2 with a 3.64 ERA and 22 strikeouts this season. In his career, Tropeano is 0-1 with a 4.35 ERA and 14 strikeouts against Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay is 5-0 in Snell’s last 5 starts against the AL West and 5-1 in their last 6 games overall while the under is 3-1-1 in Snell’s last 5 road starts against a team with a winning record. Los Angeles is 1-4 in Tropeano’s last 5 starts against the AL East and 13-5 in their last 18 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 4-1 in Tropeano’s last 5 starts. Tampa Bay is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams and 24-9 in the last 33 meetings in Los Angeles.
Snell blew up in his last start, allowing five runs in that 17-1 rout at the hands of Baltimore over the weekend. However, before that Snell hadn’t allowed more than two runs in any of his previous six starts. Tropeano has allowed three or more in three of his last four starts and it doesn’t help matters that the Angels are struggling mightily at the plate right now. I don’t want to push my luck, but the most sensible pick here seems like Tampa Bay and the plus money.
