The San Diego Padres and the Pittsburgh Pirates duke it out in the finale of their four game set from PNC Park in MLB action on Sunday.

The San Diego Padres will look to win the series after back-to-back wins, including a 6-2 win over the Buccos on Saturday. Christian Villanueva and Jose Pirela each had two RBIs, with Villanueva going 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while Pirela added a two-bagger of his own. Raffy Lopez and Cory Spangenberg each had an RBI to round out the scoring for the Padres in the win. Franchy Cordero and starting pitcher Clayton Richard each had a double, while Travis Jankowski went 3 for 5 and Franmil Reyes chipped in a base hit of his own in the victory. Richard ended up with the win after giving up both runs on seven hits over 7.1 innings of work. Jordan Lyles will start the finale and is 1-1 with a 2.53 ERA and 32 strikeouts this season. In his career, Lyles is 0-5 with a 7.82 ERA and 41 strikeouts against Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to rebound and salvage a series split after dropping back-to-back outings following their loss on Saturday. Jordy Mercer went 3 for 3 with an RBI, while Sean Rodriguez added a double and an RBI to wrap up the scoring for Pittsburgh in the loss. Josh Bell added a triple and David Freese added a double, while Corey Dickerson and Elias Diaz added a base hit each to cap off the offense for Pittsburgh. Nick Kingham took the loss, falling to 2-1 this season after giving up three runs on five hits while striking out five over six innings of work. Trevor Williams will start the finale and is 5-2 with a 2.72 ERA and 35 strikeouts this season. This will be Williams’ first career start against San Diego.

San Diego is 2-5 in their last 7 road games and 9-20 in their last 29 game 4 matchups while the under is 4-0 in Lyles’ last 4 starts overall. Pittsburgh is 7-3 in Williams’ last 10 starts and 19-7 in their last 26 home games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. The under is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams.

The Padres have looked really good over the last couple of games, and Lyles looked strong against his former team in his last outing, throwing 7.1 perfect innings against the Rockies. However, Lyles has struggled in his career against Pittsburgh, and Williams has been very good for the Bucs this season, giving up two runs or less in seven of his nine starts this year. All in all, I think Pittsburgh has enough in the tank to rally behind Williams and salvage a split so I’ll lay the juice with Pittsburgh on Sunday.
