Chad Pinder went 2 for 4 with a grand slam that eventually sealed the victory for the A’s, while Stephen Piscotty opened the scoring with an RBI single, going 2 for 4 to round out the scoring for Oakland in the W. The Toronto Blue Jays will try to salvage a win after losing the first three games of the set, including their loss on Saturday. Gio Urshela led the Jays with a two run home run, while Yangervis Solarte went 2 for 5 with a pair of doubles and an RBI and Kevin Pilar added an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for Toronto in the loss. Kendrys Morales added a double while Justin Smoak went 2 for 3 to cap off the offense for the Jays in the defeat. Sam Gaviglio went 5.1 shutout innings, allowing just six hits while striking out six, not factoring in the decision. Tyler Clippard took his first loss and first blown save of the season after giving up the game winning grand slam to Chad Pinder in the 8th. Joe Biagini will start the finale and is 0-2 with a 7.98 ERA and 11 strikeouts this season. This will be Biagini’s first career start against Oakland.

Oakland is 5-2 in Mengden’s last 7 starts and 9-1 in their last 10 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 5-1-1 in their last 7 game 4 matchups. Toronto is 3-14 in Biagini’s last 17 starts and 1-5 in their last 6 games overall while the under is 4-0-1 in Biagini’s last 5 home starts. Oakland is 3-12 in the last 15 meetings between these two teams in Toronto.

We kinda dodged a bullet yesterday taking Oakland, as the Jays decided to give Gaviglio the start. And it almost paid off however the normally reliable Jays’ bullpen blew it. I said it yesterday, and my thoughts won’t change after one day. Biagini can’t be trusted on the mound as Toronto has simply had no success with him starting games. Mengden has been very good on the mound, giving up two runs or less in six of his last six starts, and one run in four of those starts. Again, given the series so far and the pitching advantage, Oakland and the low line for the sweep has to be the play here.
