The Cleveland Indians and the Chicago Cubs square off in game one of their two game interleague set from Wrigley Field in MLB action on Tuesday.

The Cleveland Indians will look to put together some consistent play after splitting their last ten games, including a 3-1 loss in their series finale against Houston on Sunday Night Baseball. Edwin Encarnacion accounted for the lone Indians’ run, despite going 0 for 3 at the plate. Michael Brantley added a double, while Jason Kipnis and Greg Allen each contributed base hits of their own as the Tribe mustered up just three hits as a team in the defeat. Carlos Carrasco took the loss, falling to 5-3 this season after giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out six over 7.2 innings of work. Trevor Bauer will start the series opener and is 3-3 with a 2.59 ERA and 67 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bauer is 2-0 with a 0.66 ERA and 15 strikeouts against the Cubs.

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Cubs will look to find some consistency of their own after splitting their last eight games but took a step in the right direction, winning their series with Cincinnati, including a 6-1 victory in the series finale on Sunday. Kyle Schwarber led the Cubs with two RBIs, while Javier Baez went 3 for 4 with a solo homer and Ben Zobrist added a solo homer of his own. Albert Almora Jr. and Anthony Rizzo each had an RBI to round out the scoring for the Cubbies in the win, while Willson Contreras added a double to round out the offense for Chicago in the victory. Yu Darvish got the elusive first win as a Cub, improving to 1-3 after giving up the one run on two hits while striking out seven over six innings of work. Tyler Chatwood will start game one and is 3-3 with a 3.14 ERA and 40 strikeouts this season. In his career, Chatwood is 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA and 14 strikeouts against Cleveland.

Cleveland is 1-5 in Bauer’s last 6 road starts and 3-10 in their last 13 interleague road games while the under is 9-0 in Bauer’s last 9 starts against the NL Central. Chicago is 9-4 in their last 13 games overall and 11-4 in their last 15 home games while the over is 4-1-2 in their last 7 games following an off day. Cleveland is 1-4 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.

Both of these teams have had trouble finding consistency lately, with Cleveland hanging around but ultimately falling to quite possibly the best team in the AL in Houston, while Chicago took it to a below average Cincinnati team. Picking a winner here is tough and I think you’d really be splitting hairs doing so, however, I think the Indians are due for a big win here and since Bauer has had success in his career against the Cubs, I feel comfortable backing the Tribe to draw first blood here.
