The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds duke it out in game two of their there game NL Central division set in MLB action from Great American Ballpark on Wednesday.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will be looking to snap a four game losing skid after dropping game one of the set by a final score of 7-2 on Tuesday. Colin Moran and Austin Meadows each launched a solo home run to cap off the scoring for the Buccos in the loss, while Josh Harrison, Gregory Polanco, Francisco Cervelli and Jordy Mercer each added a base hit as well in the loss. Jameson Taillon took the loss after giving up six runs on eight hits while striking out eight over six innings of work, falling to 2-4 on the year. The Cincinnati Reds will still be looking for some measure of consistency after splitting their last ten games, including their victory on Tuesday. Scooter Gennett led the charge for Cincinnati, going 2 for 3 with a home run, a double and six RBIs. Eugenio Suarez added the other RBI to round out Cincinnati’s scoring, going 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles. Tucker Barnhart went 3 for 4 with a double as well, while Jose Peraza and Billy Hamilton each had a base hit as well in the win. Matt Harvey got his first win as a Red, giving up one run on three hits while striking out five over six innings of work. Homer Bailey will start game two and is 1-6 with a 6.11 ERA and 32 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bailey is 10-7 with a 3.55 ERA and 120 strikeouts against Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is 5-1 in Kuhl’s last 6 starts and 4-10 in their last 14 road games while the over is 8-0-1 in Kuhl’s last 9 starts. Cincinnati is 1-10 in Bailey’s last 11 home starts against a team with a winning record and 19-42 in their last 61 games overall while the over is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games following a win. Cincinnati is 2-8 in Bailey’s last 10 starts against Pittsburgh and 1-4 in Bailey’s last 5 home starts against the Pirates.
As if his numbers against Pittsburgh weren’t enough to lean towards the Pirates, Bailey has struggled mightily at home this season, going 0-6 with a 7.10 ERA and 1.61 WHIP. Pittsburgh hasn’t bee playing well lately granted, but Kuhl has been one of their better arms this season and with the price as low as it is, based on the pitching matchup alone, I’ll lay the juice for the Pirates to even up the set.
