The Detroit Tigers and the Minnesota Twins square off in the finale of their three game set from Target Field in MLB action on Wednesday afternoon.
The Detroit Tigers will look to rebound and snap a five game losing streak and avoid the sweep after dropping game two by a final score of 6-0 on Tuesday. JaCoby Jones went 2 for 3 with a double while James McCann and Nick Castellanos each had two hits as well in the losing effort. Victor Martinez added a base hit to round out the offense for the Tigers in the loss. Matt Boyd took the loss to fall to 2-4 this season after giving up two runs on one hits over four innings of work. Michael Fulmer will start game three and is 1-3 with a 4.35 ERA and 46 strikeouts this season. In his career, Fulmer is 3-0 with a 3.50 ERA and 18 strikeouts against Minnesota.

The Minnesota Twins will look to finish the sweep and add to their current three game winning streak following their win on Tuesday. Brian Dozier went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs, while Ehire Adrianza added a pair of two-baggers of his own with two RBIs and Byron Buxton chipped in an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for Minnesota in the win. Max Kepler added a pinch-hit double and Logan Morrison chipped in a base knock of his own to cap off the offense for the Twins in the victory. Lance Lynn got the win to improve to 2-4 this season after tossing 6.2 innings of five hit shutout baseball, striking out four. Kyle Gibson will start the finale and is 1-2 with a 3.96 ERA and 55 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gibson is 6-7 with a 5.59 ERA and 66 strikeouts against Detroit.
Detroit is 9-0 in Fulmer’s last 9 Wednesday starts and 14-37 in their last 51 road games while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall. Minnesota is 13-4 in Gibson’s last 17 starts and 5-0 in their last 5 division matchups while the under is 7-3 in their last 10 games overall. Minnesota is 4-0 in Gibson’s last 4 starts against Detroit.
I really wanted to take Detroit and the plus money as I think Fulmer is the best chance the Tigers have at a win and he’s had success against the Twins. However, Detroit has looked brutal during this losing stretch, and while Gibson hasn’t had the most luck in terms of decisions this year, the Twins have had Detroit’s number with him on the mound and have done very well with Gibson on the bump dating back to last season, so I’ll lay the juice with Minnesota here to complete the sweep.
