The Los Angeles Angels and the Toronto Blue Jays square off in the rubber match of their three game set from Rogers Centre in MLB action on Thursday afternoon.

The Los Angeles Angels will look to take the series after evening the set up at one win apiece following a 5-4 victory in game two on Wednesday. Shohei Ohtani and Andrelton Simmons each had two RBIs, while Martin Maldonado added an RBI as well to round out the scoring for the Halos in the win. Zack Cozart went 3 for 4, while Albert Pujols and Mike Trout each had a base hit as well as none of L.A.’s nine hits went for extra bases in the winning effort. Tyler Skaggs gave up three runs on six hits while striking out six over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Justin Anderson got the win to improve to 1-1 while Blake Parker got out of a shaky 9th inning for his 3rd save of the year. Nick Tropeano will start game three and is 1-3 with a 4.45 ERA and 26 strikeouts this season. This will be Tropeano’s first career start against Toronto.

The Toronto Blue Jays will be looking to rebound after dropping game two on Wednesday in heartbreaking fashion, giving up four runs in the top of the 9th and falling just short in the end for their eighth loss in ten games. Yangervis Solarte led the Jays with two RBIs, going 2 for 4 with a home run. Devon Travis added a solo homer as well, while Kendrys Morales added an RBI to round out Toronto’s scoring in the loss. Teoscar Hernandez, Josh Donaldson and Curtis Grandson each added a double while Russell Martin and Dwight Smith Jr. each contributed base hits of their own in the losing effort. Aaron Sanchez threw five shutout innings, walking five and striking out a pair, allowing just two hits. Tyler Clippard gave up four runs in the 9th, taking the loss to fall to 4-2 with his second blown save of the year as well. Marco Estrada will take the mound in game three and is 2-4 with a 5.15 ERA and 40 strikeouts this season. In his career, Estrada is 1-1 with a 6.62 ERA and 16 strikeouts against the Angels.

Los Angeles is 1-5 in Tropeano’s last 6 starts against the NL East and 15-4 in their last 19 road games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 Thursday games. Toronto is 8-2 in Estrada’s last 10 starts against the AL West and 2-8 in their last 10 games overall while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a right-handed starter. Los Angeles is 13-6 in the last 19 meetings between these two teams in Toronto.

The Angels probably have the momentum coming into the finale after their rally on Wednesday, however, Tropeano hasn’t been very good this season. The problem for Toronto is that Estrada has been just as bad, with an ERA over five and even though the Jays have excelled with him against the AL West, the Angels have been a thorn in Estrada’s side with a career ERA well over six. Instead, rather than try to pick sides in the pitching matchup, I’m going to side with the over as I see this one hitting double digits on the scoreboard.
